For the last few months, I've been following the blogs of women who motivate me. Not all of them are runners - some are Cross-Fitters or walkers or just women who are busy like me.
A trend I started to notice was people catching on to the 'Primal' diet, which avoids sugars, processed foods, grains, and processed or low-fat dairy. I never thought I would be able to live without grain - and whole fat dairy? I had never even HAD full-fat yogurt in my life.
Between the sadness of bum-ankle-gate, and stress at work, I knew I needed something new to challenge me every day. I decided to try and live on the primal foods last week - and I did it. It was for 3 days, but I did it. I enjoyed full-fat greek yogurt for breakfast, delicious meats & veggies at lunch, and was completely full. Not stuffed full - but adequately full for HOURS. It was ridiculously awesome. I didn't notice much of a change energy wise as compared to going off sugar...but it was 72 hours. :P
After a long talk w/ M, I decided that Primal isn't sustainable in our lives right now. I had no plans to do it forever - or even longer than a week, but the big change worried him.
So, as a happy medium, I'm going to be primal-ish. I'm going to continue avoiding sugars, processed foods, and grains. I'm going to continue trying to cook the majority of my food, and get better at meal planning & buying good, organic grocieries on a budget. I'm going to continue packing my lunch everyday and thinking about what I am using to fuel my body. If I have some bread - or frosting - it's not that big of a deal.
(And, I'm going to enjoy the hell out of this greek yogurt. NOM NOM NOM)
Cool! I'll have to look into Primal. NEver heard of it.
