Santa Run Tacoma 5k Recap!

Santa Runs Tacoma 5k Recap

I woke up at 6am Saturday morning to the sound of POURING rain, GUSTING winds and my power flickering.  OIE.  I grabbed my phone and tweeted this immediately:

Nevertheless, I got on my outfit (black with red/white striped socks) and sprinted to the car.  I dashed into Starbucks, got my americano, and sped to the gas station - I still had hubs' car and he was nearly out of gas.  WHOOPS!

Got onto the road, and thankfully the weather cleared up by the time I hit Tacoma.  I parked, found Kadie and Kerrie, took bloggy pictures, and we were off.

I didn't have much of a plan - just either run as much as I could or find someone to run with and stick with them.  Thankfully, Kadie & I agreed to stick together.  She was 13 days out from the RnR LV Half, and I was so proud of her for getting back out so quickly after her effort there!  We ran, walked, chatted, laughed.  It's amazing how much faster the miles tick by when you have company.  I have only run with someone else maybe 2 times before this, so it's so EXCITING to have company!  I didn't bring my Garmin, and we didn't pay much attention to Kadie's. (She PR'ed! WOOO!)

We sprinted down the big hill to the finish line, where our personal papparazzi Mel was waiting.  My two favorite pics of the bunch?

We look SO HAPPY.  And truthfully, I was SO HAPPY that entire morning.  Last week was a really hard week, and being able to see friends, get hugs, and then take it out on the pavement was just what I needed.  The crisp, clear air helped me clear my head and the view of the water helped recharge my appreciation of living in the PNW.

So, this spring.  More 5ks.  More 10ks.  Training for RnR Seattle.  Mel's building me a 16 week program.  I'll run a max of 13 miles in training, leaving the actual race to be my distance PR.  I'm already digging out my shorts & skirts to bring with me on the cruise in February so I can run in SUNSHINE!  I'm heading over to Super Jock & Jill next week to get new shoes.  I think I might be getting a RoadID for Christmas, which means I get to stop carrying my license.  There's so much to be excited about in the New Year!
