On Sleep

Back in May, when I went into my Dr for my annual visit, I talked to her about my sleep schedule.  Mainly in that I was doing everything right (normal routine, exercising, eating well, losing weight), but still felt like I could sleep for hours beyond the 8 I was getting most nights.

Her reply?

"Maybe you need more than 8 hours of sleep"

I blinked at her.  And then almost cried.  When I don't get enough sleep, I don't do well.  Sure, I can sustain a few bad nights or a once-in-a-blue-moon early wakeup, but most of the time I am SLEEPY!  I haven't slept well for almost two weeks now due to the dog & Mike having a cold, and I am FEELING IT!

I haven't had much energy for anything, but have been trying to get out and do something.  Monday I rested.  On Tuesday I pulled a 4-miler out of my butt.  On Wednesday I slogged through a mile on the 'mill before realizing my stomach wasn't going to take much more.

Yesterday?  I slept.  I fell asleep on the couch at 9pm, took a shower at 10pm, and then crashed in bed at 11 - a full hour before our normal bedtime.  Thankfully, JJ & Mike are doing better (read:sleeping!) so I was able to get 6+ uninterrupted hours last night.

I brought my gear with me to run during lunch - the weather is HORRIBLE out right now, but I am going to slog through.  Tomorrow I will have personal training, and on Sunday I'm cleaning out my kitchen.

The dog will get better, Mike will get better, I won't get sick (ha!) and next week will be better.  Right?

  1. Dang, girl. You need to go to bed earlier. During the week, I aim for 9, but definitely am in before 10 (even when I don't get up super early to go to the gym).
