Blue Angels! Seafair! America!

So, for those of you NOT from the Seattle area, there's this little shin-dig we have the first weekend in August.  It's called Seafair Weekend.

There's hydroplane racing.  There's the log boom, where you tie up for 72 hours on your boat and party for about 70 of those hours.  Yes, rain or shine.

The boats zoom zoom around, their endless drone lulling you into chants of  'USA! USA!'.

Then, the planes show up.  There's an entire air show, but the best part is the Navy Blue Angels.  Providing it's sunny, they do a *GREAT* high show.   Even the low show (if the cloud deck is too low) is great.

Yeah, we're plane nerds.  For the last few years, we've gone to Boeing Field (yes, that Boeing) and watched the rest of the air show and the Angels take off.

Now, if you've been reading the blog for a while, you know Mike & I are giant plane nerds.  We went and saw Top Gun on the anniversary of its release in a movie theater, for god's sake.

Our love is born from our families.  Mike's dad was a pilot in the Navy before being a pilot for United Airlines for 30+ years.  My grandfather flew fighter jets for the Army/Air Force for 30+ years, including tours in Vietnam.  One of my family's most treasured items is his flight helmet.

So while some in Seattle might boo-hoo about the traffic the Angels cause, or the noise...I love it.  It's something that a grown man who flied for 30 years can't put into words.  The roar of the engines, the glint of the sun off of the wings....well.  It's my favorite time of the year. :)
