On a non-running note...

Almost two years ago a new girl joined our product line at work.  She was friendly, outgoing, and laughed loudly.  We talked a bit at first, then more and more as we found out we had more in common - including being in a long-term relationship & owning a small dog.

Eventually, we got closer.  She was SO supportive of the changes I made last spring.  She was ALWAYS intersted in how far I ran, and gave me the world's biggest hug on the day after I ran my first quarter-mile straight.  We hung out at her place after her boyfriend was stuck in Canada (where they are from) and watched bad TV.  I felt bad she had to cook for herself, so started making dinner/lunches for her.

After I joined her team last spring, we became such good friends.  SUCH good friends.  People who don't work here don't understand the stresses & frustrations we have (nor why we stay, most of the time!).  We went to the dog park with the boys, dinner with the boyfriends, happy hour and the bar.  We laughed, we cried, we became really good friends.

Now, she's heading back to Canada to be with the boy and her family.  Today's her last day at work before 6 weeks of travel and then unpacking her boxes in Canada.

I'm really sad.

Yeah, I know there was nothing really keeping her here.  I was the one who asked her why she was still in Seattle.  But it still sucks to lose that daily BFF.

She's the first person who's known me as a semi-adult that I've become super close with.  She's never once judged me, and has always given me her honest opinions.  We got shit-faced drunk in December and when I told her I wanted her in my wedding she started to cry.

I know she's not leaving forever.  It's only a few hours to Victoria, but it won't be the same.

Sigh.

  1. Sounds like a great excuse to visit Victoria (if you needed one).

That really does suck. I used to carpool with someone when I worked at the big corporate job in Bellevue. Every morning was like a therapy session. We're still friends, but we don't see each other that often or talk that often. So, it sucks. And she only lives in Renton! Okay, I don't think this is helping...

    Hugs to you.

  2. I'm sorry, that's sad to lose someone who you are used to seeing regularly but...skype, phones, internet and the clipper will make it easier?
